Creative Collab. - Nicole Andrea MUA by Victoria Lemos

This blog post is being published way overdue, but I need to get it up before the month ends! A few weeks ago I worked with my cousin and sister to create these fun portraits using a backdrop and natural light in my driveway. My sister loves doing makeup and recently went freelance, so she is now booking appointments for makeup sessions. We thought it'd be great for us to work together, so we had our cousin over, Nicole did her makeup, and then we took photos!

For the styling, we wanted something chic yet simple. I used a white backdrop and played with my edits in Lightroom to create a more vintage look. I absolutely love how all of the photos turned out!

Check out Nicole here for more of her work!

Pioneer Square High School Senior Portraits by Victoria Lemos

This senior session was so much fun. Genesis knew she wanted a city look for her shots, so we discussed potential locations, and she automatically chose Pioneer Square. It's such a popular choice amongst seniors and understandably so. The cool alleyways, old brick buildings, and green vines make for the perfect edgy and urban senior session. She even let me know beforehand that she wanted a few creative shots incorporated as well when it came to editing. I love being creative with my editing and having fun so this definitely got me excited! I love when my clients are more than willing and wanting to be creative with me.

We shot at 9 am on a Sunday morning, which turned out to be perfect. Not only was the lighting bright but not harsh at all, the streets were nearly empty. We were so easily able to stop every five minutes of walking and pose in front of a building without anyone photobombing in the background. We started in Pioneer Square and then ended up in a car rental garage, which was the perfect end. Genesis changed outfits and wore a pretty pink sweater that went so well with the pretty morning colors in the city. This session was definitely a favorite of mine! Congrats Genesis!

Green Lake High School Senior Portraits by Victoria Lemos

The end of August is here, and that means fall is just around the corner - my favorite time of year. Fortunately, I was able to schedule a few end-of-summer high school senior sessions, and this one is my most recent! Sarah contacted me about getting her senior portraits taken and needed help deciding on the location. After listing a few personal recommendations, she decided on Green Lake Park in Seattle because of the childhood memories she made there before moving out of the city. Green Lake was a park she visited frequently, and she wanted a mixture of green and lake settings for her portraits. I couldn't be happier with her decision because Green Lake is one of my favorite parks to shoot at! I'm beyond excited with how the photos turned out & I'm happy Sarah likes them as well.

Also, these pictures were taken with my new Sigma 50mm 1.4 lens. I've been eyeing this lens (and the Canon 50mm 1.2) for many months and finally decided to take the plunge! Maybe I'll post a review on it...

High School Grad Portraits by Victoria Lemos

My first high school grad portrait session this season and it couldn't have started off anymore beautifully. Shayla knew she wanted her pictures to be taken at Juanita Bay Park and it is one of my favorite locations to shoot at. I haven't shot there since last summer with another high school senior client so I was excited to go back. The flourishing greens and the old wooden boardwalk were exactly as I remembered.

I love when my clients have fun with their sessions and bring along props too. Props always add something a bit more personalized to the session and the images turn out so much better! Shayla brought along two huge gold balloons that looked gorgeous with all of the surrounding greens and her crisp white dress.

Congrats Shayla!

Coffee Shop College Grad Portraits by Victoria Lemos

My third college grad portrait session; I'm honestly loving these all so much! Believe it or not, there is definitely a difference between shooting high school portraits and shooting college grad portraits. The excitement and feeling of accomplishment is there for both but unlike the poised and more uniform shots I aim for during high school senior shoots, college grads seem to desire a greater level of creativity for their shoots... maybe because they are finally done with school, and so they go into their shoot with a more carefree attitude!

For this session, I shot with a UW graduate named Chengsu who knew she wanted portraits taken in a coffee shop somewhere in Seattle. Seattle coffee shops are my favorite to look for and discover. The interiors are always so unique, ranging from hipster to modern, and they're just cool spaces to be in to meet up with friends or catch up on homework/editing. We originially meant to meet up at Elm Coffee Roasters in Pioneer Square but didn't realize it closed at 5 pm (it was a Sunday, duh!). We then decided on Slate Coffee Roasters in U-District, and it was perfect! I've been there once before and shot portraits for Gold Magazine so I knew of the perfect spots for best lighting. Plus, it wasn't even too packed that day!

I'm excited to share these simple yet cute and unique portraits and I look forward to shooting with more creative college grads & high school seniors! Congrats Chengsu!

Creative Collab. - Margo (@margodoesmakeup) & Dominique by Victoria Lemos

I finally got around to finishing up the images from my creative shoot with Margo and Dominique. This shoot was extremely fun. I had come across Margo and her makeup artistry on Instagram a few months back and had always kept her in mind for future creative work. Her younger cousin Dominique I had found on Instagram as well and she had done a few modeling gigs so I wanted us three to work together on something amazing.

Once we had the time to schedule a shoot I collected inspiration on Pinterest (my go-to for all inspiration and photography tips), shared the images with both of them, and basically asked Margo to have fun with the makeup look! I trust her because she is so dang good!

The day of our shoot it was raining but luckily our ideas called for a white backdrop using natural light so we were able to set up in an open garage while shielding ourselves from the rain. Before the shoot, I stopped by Albertsons and picked up a few fun props: Kit Kat, fun colored lollipops, bubble gum, and a vintage looking bottle of lemonade.

Here are my favorite images from our shoot. I look forward to working with Margo again and I recommend her to anyone looking for professional makeup when it comes to any events or photo shoot needs!

City Rooftop w/ Rahima by Victoria Lemos

Wow. This shoot is probably my all-time favorite. Why? Because everything executed itself so smoothly... the shoot went fantastic because of the model, the editing process was quick and fun, and the final images made me so happy and proud because of how wonderful they turned out.

Rahima and I went to high school together and I actually took both her prom and senior photos. Ever since then I've wanted to shoot with her creatively because I always thought she was gorgeous and so easy to work with in front of the camera. After awhile of us talking about potentially working together again, we finally made it happen this month (3 years later, but oh so worth it) and I could not have been more excited. We quickly bounced some ideas back and forth and decided to shoot in Seattle for a cool edgy styled shoot. The day we chose was set to be overcast but that's exactly what I wanted. One of the most important, yet underrated rules I've learned throughout my experience of being an outdoor/natural light photographer, is that overcast/gloomy weather produces the best lighting for portraits. I can't deny the magic of golden hour lighting of course, but for me, flat/neutral lighting helps contour the face so beautifully and smoothly.

We shot on a now popular rooftop for my shoots as of late, and Rahima kept giving me pose after pose with pretty much no direction on my end. She was honestly such a natural.

When I began to edit the images we shot, I was immediately blown away. The editing was just so easy for me because of the color palettes, composition, and lighting. Every component was just spot on.

I sent the photos to Rahima and she was equally in love and so excited. It makes me so happy to create with others and I'm so blessed to have something in life that I am so overwhelmingly passionate about. Suprisingly, Rahima actually doesn't model seriously at all but after this shoot, I encouraged her right away to go for it and she told me she felt inspired! Keep your eyes open, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see this girl on more than a few billboards one day.

Professional Portraits: Joyce by Victoria Lemos

One of my favorite locations to shoot at (but least visited) would have to be UW Seattle campus. I attend the Bothell branch campus mainly for the size and commute but I can't deny the fact that the main campus is absolutely gorgeous! Every time I walk through, I'm fascinated by the timeless architecture and the vastness of all the lecture halls and libraries. It's definitely an underrated shooting location for sure.

Usually, spring/summer time is the best time to shoot in locations such as this one but I was still excited when Joyce contacted me about taking some professional photos of her for her website. She's a professional flutist who lives in San Francisco and she graduated from UW a few years back, so this location was already familiar to her.

Here are a few of the shots we created. Joyce did so well in that 37-degree winter weather! I have no clue how she was able to keep herself from running indoors. Thanks to her we got some good shots so I guess the cold was worth it!

Senior Session: Bethany by Victoria Lemos

December isn't the easiest month to shoot senior portraits in because of the harsh weather here in Seattle, Washington, but Bethany and I finally had the opportunity with a partly sunny day a few days before Christmas and I am so happy with the results! It was definitely worth the wait.

Bethany is from Oregon and wanted a city vibe in Seattle type of shoot so we met up at Pike Place Market and took a stroll up and down the nearby streets, stopping every minute or so when we found something portrait worthy. The market was surprisingly packed midweek, but then again, we were only a few days from Christmas and it was during the holiday season.

I'm so thankful to Bethany and her mom for reaching out to me (she found me on Instagram!) and for driving here from Oregon during the busiest time of the year! They were both so sweet to work with and made our shoot quite enjoyable.

Senior Session: Saba by Victoria Lemos

AHHH. I'm ashamed to admit that I've fallen SO incredibly behind on my blog posts and that is primarily because Autumn quarter started the beginning of October. I am already heading fast towards midterms next week so it's been a challenge juggling schoolwork and photography, plus updating my website. Regardless, I've decided to post because I have so much to share and I've been exceptionally busy still with senior sessions. I've shot around 5 so far that I planned on blogging but I think for the sake of time I'll just blog my recent senior session with Saba from last week.

Saba was such a sweet girl to work with. She is one of a few clients of mine who has taken advantage of the optional consultation I offer prior to our senior session so I was happy we were able to meet in person before our session. She had so many great ideas and after thinking of possible locations we decided on the city of Kirkland: downtown city area near Heritage Hall and then Juanita Bay Park.

After a few portraits at Heritage Hall & downtown, we drove about 5 minutes away to Juanita Bay Park. It was GORGEOUS. My first time visiting this park and I'm so glad I did. After this shoot, I definitely plan on recommending this location to other clients because of how beautiful it was.

It was such a great session overall and I'm so happy with how the photos turned out. I learned that Saba enjoys photographer herself and is taking a few classes this year! It makes me happy when I hear people talk about their enjoyment about something I feel so strongly about. Photography is a way of documenting life and the importance of that idea is often times underestimated.
